How it started...

FALL 2015

August:

The fire alarm sounds in a college physics classroom. Evie works up the courage to go stand next to the cute boy in class and strike up a conversation while everyone is waiting to be let back into the building.

September:

Evie gets hired to be a pass leader at the university's math tutoring lab, where the cute boy in her physics class already works. When attending the first staff meeting, he waves her over to join the table where he is sitting.

October:

Evie is making up coding issues and trying to come up with interesting and challenging questions to stump the cute boy in the math center. Paul is starting to work up the courage to ask her for her number.

November:

Paul finally asks Evie for her number and sets up the time and place for their first date.

December:

They go on that date. It's a huge success!

The Proposal

Spring 2023

February

It's Valentines Day 2023, and Evie receives a simple card from Paul.... Simple but for the ten blank spaces, one small brown envelope with a clue inside and a next step. It reads: “Spend time with your favorite person.”

Evie, curious and smiling, calls her sister. Plans are made and she thinks she will get the next clue over the phone. It wasn't going to be that easy though... after a month of waiting, Evie and Eyvonne step into the dreamlike world of Myow Wolf and have a day of wonder and exploration. At lunch, she finally gets the next clue... Another strange symbol and a note that says, "Grab a cup of coffee with your favorite lab partner."

And so Evie got to embark on a journey where each blank space on the card became a moment, a memory, a clue. All while slowly filling in the blank spaces on this card and trying to cheat her way to the riddles solution and decode the message early.

The journey took her through March, April, May, June July, August... Coffee with Kim, a concert with her Dad, shopping with Leanne, painting pots with her Mom, a speakeasy with Vika, painting more pots with Victoria and Valentina (I love painting pots), a movie marathon with Sonia and Chelsea... and finally in September, she got the last clue.

After hiking through Garden of the Gods with Natalie, she has it... the final square. She has cracked the code. It's two words: Math Center. She knows where to go, back to where it all started.

When she gets there though, there is no Paul, just an envelope taped to a locked door. Disappointed, she returns to the car where Natalie is waiting. Together Evie and Natalie drive back home...

Where Paul is waiting, on one knee, in the living room, surrounded by both of their families. He asks the question.

I said yes :)
